How do I get a credit card with kinda bad credit?

My credit has about 3 maybe 4 things on it that aren't so good. I've been trying to get a credit card and build my credit up but I only get approved for prepaid cards. They want me to deposit $300-$500 a month for 3 months into a savings account for them and then I get approved to use that card. If I had that kind of money, I wouldn't need the damn card in the 1st place, lol. Any suggestions? please?
All the things on my credit report are from like5-6 years ago.....I have paid them all off. I am responsible with my finances now.....All that from before was when I was a single mother of 4 very young kids and trying to do the best that I could. So I don't think you should say that I'm basically irresponsible. All I wanna do is pay for the new engine my van needs. And then have it paid for and make payments. I can't afford to pay for the whole thing at one time.

Well first of all i think you have it all wrong. You shouldn't be using a credit card to pay for things you cant afford. This is probably how you got the 3 pr 4 things that arent so good on your credit report.

As for the answer to your question... well you answered it yourself- "I only get approved for prepaid cards." There you have it. Your credit score is not good enough to get approved for a credit card.

Pay off all your cards and after that pay the balance each month for at least a year. This should improve your credit score, and maybe more importantly teach you how to be responsible with your finances.

There are more that a few lenders who specialize in credit cards for people with bad credit. You just have to look a little harder than most people have to.

And getting a card after you've had a few problems doesn't necessarily mean that you have a higher than normal rate. Like, I said, you'll just have to compare between credit lines, yearly fees, and interest percentages. Just make sure you do your homework BEFORE you commit, and you'll be fine.

You can find some offers for credit cards, both secured and unsecured here:
